
CSDCU Education Fund Formerly called the CSDCU Education Development Unit, the CSDCU Education Fund (the Fund) started aiding students in 2001 and was registered as a charitable organization in August 2003. Its aims are to assist rebuilding dilapidated school premises, providing subsistence to students with financial problems to continue schooling, and to improve teaching qualities in remote areas in mainland China. The Fund is renowned for the followings: 1. Directors and members of the Fund are volunteers, and most of them are from disciplined services who are rich with organizing ability and of high discipline; 2. Extremely low administrative cost as most of them are absorbed by Correctional Services Department Credit Union (CSDCU), nearly all donations are directly used in the education projects. Projects in mainland China School Rebuilding Projects Up to 2006, the Fund has donated about RMB 3,000,000 to rebuild 17 dilapidated school premises in the provinces of Guizhou, Hunam and Nei Mengui. The subsistence to each school was ranging from RMB70,000 TO RM260,000. Student Grants Scheme The Fund also provides Students Grants Scheme to schools that are under our School Rebuilding Project. In every school, up be 20 students may be receiving a grant of RMB300 yearly. The Bonfire Programme In order to improve the quality of teachers in remote areas in mainland China, the Fund has set up the Bonfire Programme to provide conditional education grants to students in the normal college (teacher's college) to assist them to complete their degrees. These students have to undertake to return to remote areas as teachers for at least two years upon graduation. Being such, teacher as with higher academic qualifications will be returning to the remote areas to improve the local education standards. To start with, the Bonfire Programme was introduced to Qian Nan Normal College for Nationalities, Quizhou Province in 2005. The Fund has commited to provide education grants amount to RMB300,000 to 30 students in this college within 5 years. The Fund is still looking for resources to extend such programme to other suitable colleges to improve academic qualifications of teachers in remote areas of other provinces. Other enhancement projects Ć Subsidizing professors of normal college
and teachers to do research work on education approaches and teaching
aids so as to improve teaching quality. Projects in Hong Kong Care and Donation to Schools of Special Education The Fund donates equipment and utilities,
provides services and activities to schools catering children who are
suffering from mental or physical disabilities.
